Incredible
and Wonderful New Season Coming Up
We are looking forward so much to making music with you this year.
There is so much happening with our new conductor Thomas
Jones.
Valerie
Selander Voisey
will be our concert mistress for the October and February concerts.
Many of you will remember her and her husband Peter from when they played
with us several years ago. She is
currently living it
For the December and April concerts, the concert master will be Christian
Robinson, the current concert master of the Sudbury Symphony.
He played with us a few years ago and we are looking forward to his
leading us.
Several years ago, we had a symphony music school.
This has been restarted this year with one teacher.
If successful, it is likely to grow.
Jordan Wyshniowsky, a cellist currently living and teaching in
The first concert in the subscription package for this year is the
Toronto Symphony concert on Tuesday September 12th.
Orchestra members will all want to attend and hear them – get your
tickets at the Capitol Centre box office early.
There will be a reception afterwards at Cecil’s Beer Society and Eatery
– invitation enclosed with this newsletter.
TSO
Master Classes
As part of the TSO visit, they will be giving master classes Monday 11th
September – details to follow.

New
Players Needed
This year, we lost a lot of our experienced and long term players, all
for excellent reasons. If you know
of new players who you think would be able and would enjoy playing with us,
please let Don Clysdale (752-2335) or Janet Zimbalatti (840-5157) know.
Music
for the 2006-2007 Season
The music for the 2006-2007 season has been decided and we already have
most of it. The hope is to be able
to distribute music early for those who want extra practice.
There will also be extra rehearsals long in advance to start on major
pieces – Dvorak’s 8th Symphony in February is one of the
highlights. An extra advantage –
we know now what parts are needed for what concerts.
The list of music planned is at the end of the newsletter.
Original
Music Copies
Last year, we started to use originals for performance copies and for
almost all rehearsal copies. Not
only does this make us legal, but it is easier to play from originals.
By using careful tracking, we lost virtually no music of what we played
last year. Thank you to all who
returned music promptly, and thank you for your patience for those who endured
my phone calls to recover music. This
year with more borrowed or rented music, it is especially important to return
all music and never to mark it in ink or coloured markers – soft (2B or 4B)
pencil is best.
Garden
Tour Success
The garden tour this year went very well – it is a major long-term
fund-raiser for the orchestra. The
weather was perfect and we made over $3700.
Thank you so much to those who attended, and those who helped out as
ticket takers, ticket sellers and many other jobs.
Special thanks to musicians who played – Jason Brock, Ryan Ballentine,
Mark de Sousa, Janet Zimbalatti, Lanny James, Don Clysdale.
Next year’s tour is July 14th – mark it on your calendar
and form a group now.
Bingo
We operate a charity bingo several times a month – this is a MAJOR
fundraiser for the orchestra, bringing in about 20% of our annual revenue.
Help is very important here – if you can help please contact Janet
Zimbalatti (840-5157) or through the symphony office at 497-7744.
Grade
4 Program
The orchestra’s Grade 4 program has been very successful for the last
two years. Last year, we visited 32
classrooms, introducing strings, woodwinds and brass instruments.
This year, we are looking for a new person to deliver the brass portion
– if interested, please call Don Clysdale (752-2335) or Janet Zimbalatti
(840-5157). Janet and Mary Thornton
have been working on a Grade 5 program as well.
The school programs have been very popular with the schools, students and
sponsors.
