Be a founding sponsor for one of our Development Projects!
Apart from the routine administrative challenges of managing a non-profit community orchestra, the North Bay Symphony undertakes a number of projects each year which contribute to our sustainability. These projects always require financial partners, and we welcome your participation in any that align with your corporate or personal goals.
GRADE 4 OUTREACH – “Instruments of the Orchestra”
Music education has been considerably impacted by cutbacks in education funding. The North Bay Symphony supplies musicians who provide a lively 3-day in-class musical experience for Grade 4 students in the North Bay region. The programme, designed by teachers for teachers, aligns closely with the learning expectations of the Ontario Grade 4 curriculum, and has been a resounding success in its 2005/2005 inaugural year.
YOUTH WORKSHOPS – “Sections of the Orchestra”
This project fulfills 2 strategic goals for the Symphony: 1) to develop junior musicians as part of its succession planning; and, 2) to reach a younger audience demographic of parents between 34-44 years of age. Four workshops will be offered during our 2005/2006 season. Each workshop will be scheduled about 1 month prior to our season concerts. The workshop will use excerpts from the upcoming concert to highlight 1 of 4 orchestra sections: Brass, woodwind, strings, and percussions. The workshops will be presented by the Symphony’s new Assistant Conductor, North Bay’s Thomas Jones.
CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT
The Symphony has become overly dependent on musicians (both amateur and semi professional) who commute for each concert from outside our region. The capacity development project will implement an aggressive training programme for orchestra section leaders and musicians with a goal of minimizing “imported” musician expense. The project’s major cost will be professional fees for additional training time by our Conductor and Assistant Conductor over the 2005/2007 period. The result will be a highly-skilled amateur community orchestra with significantly lower musician costs.
